Data requests

The Finnish Cancer Registry is a national register of the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and it is maintained on the basis of specific legislation. Data are collected only for statistical and scientific research purposes.

The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) may grant permission to disclose data contained in the register for scientific research and statistical purposes, as separately laid down under section 4 of the Act on National Personal Records Kept under the Health Care System (556/89) and Chapters 2–4 of the Personal Data Act (523/1999). Other cancer data will be disclosed at the discretion of the Chief Medical Officer of the Finnish Cancer Registry. The data will be disclosed in non-identifiable table format to ensure that the privacy of the registered persons will not be jeopardized. The person making the data request is obliged to give an explanation to the controller of the register, for which purpose the requested data will be used.
