Founded in 1936, the Cancer Society of Finland comprises 12 regional cancer societies and four patient organisations. The member organisations have more than 140 000 individual members. Regional cancer associations and patient organisation are run throughout the country, providing a strong network of information and support. Activities are based on the results of scientific research, which is funded through grants offered by the Finnish Cancer Foundation, the Finnish Foundation for Cancer Research and the Foundation for the Finnish Cancer Institute. The Finnish Cancer Registry provides epidemiological and statistical information.
