Finnish Cancer Registry
The Finnish Cancer Registry is an institute for epidemiological and statistical cancer research, founded in 1952. It maintains a nation-wide database on all cancer cases in Finland since 1953.
Mass-Screening Registry is a part of the Finnish Cancer Registry. It maintains a database on the three national cancer screenings that are carried out in Finland. Recently, the Mass-Screening Registry has initiated the nationwide screening programme for colorectal cancer - the first of its kind in the world.
The Finnish Cancer Registry is partly funded by the Cancer Society of Finland and works very closely with all cancer organisations but is administrated by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), a research and development institute under the Finnish Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. THL partially funds the cancer register but the Mass Screening Registry does not receive any public funding. Research projects are usually funded with grants from national and international sources.
